Cardiac Care
Bypass surgery, valve procedures and interventional cardiology with senior operating surgeons.
Cardiac care covers the heart and its blood vessels — blocked arteries, failing valves, and rhythm problems that need a device. Most patients arrive with an angiogram or echocardiogram already done, and the real question is which of several reasonable treatments suits them.
What we can help you compare
Bypass surgery and stenting treat the same disease differently, and the better choice depends on the pattern of your blockages rather than on preference. Valve repair may be possible where you were told replacement was needed. We put your imaging in front of both a surgeon and a cardiologist and give you the two views in writing.
What to send us
Your angiogram report and images, a recent echocardiogram with the ejection fraction, an ECG, and your medication list. That is usually enough for a consultant to give a firm opinion without you travelling first.
Treatments in Cardiac Care
-
Coronary Artery Bypass (CABG)
Bypass grafting to restore blood flow around blocked coronary arteries. Both on-pump and off-pump techniques are available; your surgeon will advise which suits...
-
Minimally Invasive Bypass Surgery
Bypass performed through a smaller incision between the ribs rather than opening the breastbone, which usually means less pain and a quicker return to normal mo...
-
Heart Valve Replacement
Replacement of a damaged aortic or mitral valve with a mechanical or tissue valve. The choice affects whether you will need lifelong blood thinners, and is disc...
-
Angioplasty and Stenting
A narrowed coronary artery is opened with a balloon and held open with a stent. Usually a short stay, and often done through the wrist rather than the groin.
-
Pacemaker Implantation
A small device is placed under the skin to keep the heart beating at a steady rate. Checked and programmed before you fly.
-
Coronary Angiography
An X-ray study of the heart's arteries using contrast dye — the test that shows exactly where and how much an artery is narrowed, and the basis of every treatme...
-
Cardiac Ablation
A catheter procedure that scars the small patch of heart tissue sending faulty electrical signals, restoring a normal rhythm — often removing the need for lifel...
-
TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation)
A new aortic valve delivered through a catheter — no open-heart surgery, no stopping the heart — for aortic stenosis, especially when open surgery would be high...
-
Aortic Valve Replacement
Surgical replacement of a narrowed or leaking aortic valve with a mechanical or tissue valve — the definitive treatment when the valve itself is the problem.
-
Mitral Valve Replacement
Replacement of the valve between the heart's left chambers when it leaks or narrows beyond repair — with repair always considered first.
-
AICD Implantation
A matchbox-sized defibrillator implanted under the skin that watches every heartbeat and automatically shocks a dangerous rhythm back to normal.
-
CRT-D Implantation
A device for heart failure that makes the heart's two pumping chambers beat together again — with a built-in defibrillator standing guard over dangerous rhythms...
-
Bentall Surgery
One operation that replaces the aortic valve, the aortic root and the first section of the aorta together, re-attaching the heart's own arteries to the new graf...
